Scientific Evidence Dr. McGill, PhD, is a world-renowned scientist and heralded spine expert who is well versed in proper back health. As a Professor of Spine Biomechanics at the University of Waterloo, his lectures are sought after worldwide. The University of Waterloo has conducted true independent and extensive testing on Innotech’s EmbraceAIRPlus and LumbAIRPlus Products. In fact, it has published several investigative reports and clinical studies which demonstrate the assured efficacy of these products. The latest study – which proved conclusive benefits – was the testing of one of our products in airline seats, published September 2009 in Ergonomics: The international journal of research and practice in human factors and ergonomics. Through his research, Dr. McGill has proven that the ideal sitting posture is one that continually changes. “The objective is to make sitting a dynamic activity with frequent posture change. During a quantitative investigation performed at the University of Waterloo in August of 1999, it was proven that inflating the internal air chamber in its highest position increased lordosis by 12 degrees (s.d. 1.9), and decreased it 13.3 degrees (s.d. 2.5) when Deflating. At its lowest position, the group average change in lumbar curvature was larger – 18.6 degrees (s.d. 6.5) upon inflation and 15.8 degrees (s.d. 5.8) upon deflation. Additional feedback received from this clinical study was that the subjects found the EmbraceAIRPlus product to provide the “most comfortable” sitting condition. We are working with Dr. McGill to develop a custom back support for use during sleep. It takes years for these ideas to come to fruition, but over time we have helped develop many products while also assisting others to shape their ideas into effective products.
