UPFRONT | From the editor Spring is in the air... I do hope you’re joining me in welcoming the warmer weather, longer days and the flowers popping up to colourize the outdoors. Something else popping up? New chiropractors. Although there are other times during the year when new chiropractors join the ranks, spring seems to be a prominent season for newly graduated chiro-practors to start practising, establishing themselves in the public sphere. New graduates may be looking to join up with established DCs in under-serviced areas, seeking a mentor to show them the ropes. Perhaps new grads take a year or two flying solo before adding their own choice of other health professionals to the mix, or closing up shop to practice with another multi-disciplinary clinic. Either way you choose to practise, I would encourage you to take a look at Dirk Keenan’s article on page 22, as he shares the many advantages of the collaborative clinic seting. In “Focus on Tanzania” (page 18), the chairty work being done by Global Peace Network is being noticed – and rewarded. An anonymous donor has pledged $100,000 annually over the next three years. In 2016 we published “A world away,” chronicling the growth of this Canadian charity. Also in this issue, Anthony Lombardi revisted a very popular article from 2012: “What athletes want,” on page 14. It contains some updated information, quotes from a variety of professional athletes, as well as a peek behind the curtain from a chiropractor treating these clients. Updated versions of previously-run stories are warranted to be published to reflect recent research, funding opportunities, and professional or indus-try-related changes. Although some of the information has aged well, it’s a bit funny how badly some of our more technology-based articles have aged – a sign of the times and accelerating change. With this accelerating change, we must realize the way DCs operate prac-tices is consistently evolving. Refuse to evolve, and your success may flounder. If you’re feeling a bit stagnant in your practice, maybe it’s time to reach out to those recent graduates and flip this mentor/mentee relationship around. Don’t forget that the “elder” practitioners can learn from the younger ones, too. P .S. Our annual Chiropractic Practice Survey is coming in May.
