In order to have high compliance and actually make an impact, it is best to start by adding, rather than taking away. Instead of telling patients to stop eating all of their favourite foods, make a suggestion to pick one healthy item to add to their diet on a daily basis (or other consistent schedule). For example, a great place to start would be to add a high-quality omega-3 supplement daily or omega-3 rich foods (salmon, shell fish, sardines, spirulina/algae) three times a week. This first step can go a long way toward bal-ancing their omega-6 to omega-3 ratio and can drastically improve their immune function and inflammatory status.
