UPFRONT | News PEOPLE Chiropractic community mourns loss of “chiropractic warrior” Renowned chiropractor Dr. James M. Sigafoose passed away on July 3, 2014, after a short illness. Recog-nized worldwide for his in-spirational chiropractic phi-losophy and motivational teaching, Sigafoose has been a powerful leader and teacher to generations of chiropractors. He also au-thored many books and a variety of multimedia educa-tional products utilized by chiropractors all over the world. A memorial celebration of the life of Dr. Jim Sigafoose was held Saturday, Aug. 2, in Abingdon, Maryland. “He was a mentor and inspiration to countless thousands of chiropractors Jim contribute so generously of his wisdom and experi-ence as the keynote speaker at ICA’s June 2014 Annual Meeting in Kansas City.” Sigafoose was also se-lected by the ICA board of directors to be the 2014 re-cipient of the Dr. Herbert Ross Reaver Award in cele-bration of his lifetime of dedicated and courageous service on behalf the chiro-practic profession. Upon graduating from high school, Sigafoose served in the U.S. Army for two years and received his chiropractic education at National College. His path-way to his unique and pow-erful understanding of chi-ropractic science and philosophy led him through a great variety of learning experiences, all of which enabled him to articulate and explain what is impor-tant in a successful chiro-practic practice like no other speaker, the ICA said. Sigafoose married his be-loved wife Patsy in 1954 with six of their children follow-ing in his footsteps and be-coming chiropractors. In addition, a son-in-law, a nephew and a daughter-in-law are also chiropractors. Sigafoose’s overarching goal is to instill the timeless philosophy that was his mantra: “To serve for the sake of serving, to give for the sake of giving, and to love for the sake of loving.” Dr. James Sigafoose, 1933 – 2014 around the world, myself included,” said ICA presi-dent Dr. Michael S. We were deeply honored to have PEOPLE Winnipeg chiropractor is new president of World Federation of Chiropractic The World Federa tion of Chiropractic (WFC) has elected Winnipeg-based chiropractor Dr. Gregory Stewart as its new presi-dent serving a two-year term. The announcement was made at the WFC Executive Council Meeting held in May in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He succeeds Dr. Dennis Richards of Australia, now past president. Stewart, who received a Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Manitoba in 1982, graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic (cum laude) from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto in 1986. He has been in full-time private practice in Winnipeg since, and has served on many provincial and national chi-ropractic committees since 1990. www.canadianchiropractor.ca These include committees on the identity of the profession, govern-ment relations, ethics, communi-cations, interprofessional collabo-ration, chiropractic legislation, third-party and government ser-vice negotiations, clinical practice guidelines and research. Stewart is also a member of Canadian Chiropractor Magazine’s editorial advisory board, advising on current trends and issues that matter to the profession. From 1994 to 1997, he was president of the Manitoba Chiropractors’ Association. Stewart also served as president of the Canadian Chiropractic Association (CCA) from 2002 to 2003. He has represented Canada and the North American Region on the Council of the World Federation Dr. Gregory Stewart of Chiropractic since 2006, most recently as the first vice-president. In 2012, he received the CCA’s highest honour, the Medal of Merit, for outstanding services to the profession. “I am excited by the advances and new opportunities for the chiropractic profession in many countries at present, and the vision and quality of the leaders beside me on the WFC Council,” said Stewart. “For these and other reasons, the work of the WFC is more im-portant than ever, and I see signif-icant new progress in research, education and practice over the next two years if we continue to maintain high standards and work together.” Other officers elected in Puerto Rico were Dr. Espen Johannessen, Norway, first vice-president, Dr. Carlos Ayres, Peru, second vice-president, and Dr. Rick McMichael , U.S. A ., secre-tary-treasurer.
