UPFRONT | From the editor Every once in a while we come across people and stories that inspire us, that remind us of our humanity and the prospects of a brighter world. There seems to be no shortage of those inspiring moments in the chiropractic world. In the few months I have been editor of Canadian Chiropractor I got to know people with great stories to tell, not just about the ways of practice or the latest trends and techniques, but about life, courage, selflessness and service to community. Telling some of these stories through the magazine is one of the things I look forward to in each issue. Having balanced content means providing articles that can touch our readers’ minds as well as their hearts. Chiropractic for the World Foundation (CFTW) is among the many organizations trying to change the world for the better – one adjustment at a time. CFTW was founded by Winnipeg-born chiropractor Dr. Robert Cham-pagne, and received charitable status in 2009. Since then, the foundation has been conducting “chiro trips” oversees, particularly in Ghana and Rwanda in Africa, helping poor communities get access to chiropractic care. The foundation operates through sponsorships and donations, according to Champagne. Its sole purpose and mission is to simply “bring the gift of chiropractic to the world.” Through these donations, CFTW was able to help build a school in Ghana. Today, the children who go to the school are not only learning about math and science, they are also learning about chiropractic. Each time CFTW returns for a chiro trip to Ghana, volunteer DCs visit the school to adjust the student, teachers and their parents – under the shade of a mango tree. The foundation is now actively fundraising to finance its coming chiro trips to Ghana, Nepal, Rwanda and Indonesia. To volunteer for any one of these chiro trips or to make a donation and help CFTW fulfill its mission, visit its website at www.chiropracticfortheworld.org. CFTW is just one of many truly inspiring stories that we hear about in the chiropractic community. Whether it’s through international organizations or the works of individual chiropractors making a difference in a community, these initiatives are testament this profession has a heart as big as the world. And it’s time we recognize that. Canadian Chiropractor Magazine wants to highlight more of these out-standing initiatives – in a big way. Watch for our next issue as we announce a new program that shines the spotlight on the unsung heroes of chiropractic.
